  1. Prepare 1 of kilo rice.
  2. Prepare 5 of tomatoes.
  3. Prepare 1 bunch of cilantro.
  4. Prepare 3 of garlic clove.
  5. It's 1 half of onion.
  6. Prepare 1/4 of Kilo meat.
  7. You need of Spices.
  8. It's 1 teaspoon of curry powder.
  9. Prepare 1 teaspoon of cumin.
  10. You need 2 packets of chicken stock.
  11. It's 2/3 teaspoon of salt.

In this recipe I used chicken instead. It has a wonderful fragrant aroma of the spices used, such as cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. This one-pot rice dish can be very addictive. I've landed by chance on your Bariis Isku Karis youtube video and can't stop salivating ever since.

Somali rice (isku-karis) step by step

  1. Cut all the vegetables into a blender and put half a cup of water (add more if needed) and blend.
  2. In a big pot put 3/4 cup oil and the meat that is cut. Add salt and seasoning..
  3. Put in the blended vegetables and stir. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and stir when needed..
  4. Boil 2.5 litres of water. Wash the rice and set it aside..
  5. In the pot with the meat check to see if the water is leaving and oil is shown. Then put the rice inside and stir..
  6. Then put the boiled water and stir. Cook it till it is soft and small liquid remains..
  7. Then put aluminum on top and cook in the oven for 20 minutes..
