Salisbury Steak step by step

  1. Heat olive oil in skillet.
  2. Add seasoned cubed steaks. Cook about 3-4 minutes on each side..
  3. Remove steaks from skillet. Set aside and cover..
  4. Add mushrooms and onion to skillet. Cook until onions are translucent..
  5. Add beef broth..
  6. In a small bowl, mix seasoned flour and water in to a loose paste. About the consistency of pancake batter..
  7. Slowly whisk flour water mixture into the beef broth until it reaches your desired thickness..
  8. Place steaks back in the mushroom gravy and let steaks finish cooking through slowly..
  9. Serve over your favorite mashed potatoes.

Salisbury steak may be a vintage recipe, but we're fully on board for the comeback. This super savory meal is best served with a side of cream cheese mashed potatoes and some smashed broccoli. Salisbury Steak is actually a version of Hamburger Steak (technically Hamburg Steak as the German's would say). Although Salisbury Steak differs from Hamburger Steak in that it allows for other filling and flavorful ingredients (very similar to meatloaf ) whereas Hamburger Steak is just meat and seasonings. The name is a little misleading — these "steaks" are actually ground beef held together with egg and breadcrumbs.
