Whole wheat naan on tawa (with yeast). Naan is a flatbread made from leavened dough in a tandoor (a clay oven). I'm sharing in the video a fail-proof quick and easy recipe to make naan on a tawa. Naan is a leavened flatbread of Central Asian Origin and also famous in Indian Sub-continent.

Making this healthy Wheat Naan aka 'Atta Naan' without oven/tandoor is very simple. Whole grain flours behave differently, absorb a lot more liquid and need some tricks to ensure that the breads are soft - not dry, airy & not dense and generally pleasing.   1. Prepare 2 cups of whole wheat flour.
  2. Prepare 2 tsp of active dry yeast.
  3. You need 1 tsp of Sugar.
  4. You need 1 tsp of Oil.
  5. You need to taste of Salt.
  6. It's as required of Warm water.
  7. Prepare as required of Butter to brush on top.

  1. Take 1/4 th cup lukewarm water in a bowl. Dissolve sugar in it then add the yeast.Cover and keep aside for 10 mins. The yeast will bloom as shown in the pic..
  2. Take flour and salt in a mixing bowl and add the yeast mixture to it..
  3. Knead it upto a sticky consistency using warm water little at a time. It should not be too sticky but must have elasticity and web like structures..
  4. Take this flour mixture on your countertop or a flat surface and knead it until it gets well combined, smooth and non sticky..
  5. Keep the dough in a greased bowl and brush the top with oil. Cover it and let it rest for aprox. 1.5 to 2 hours depending upon the weather, until it doubles in the size..
  6. Punch down the air and knead it for a min or two..
  7. Make a roll shape out of the dough. Divide in equal parts..
  8. Roll the naan with a rolling pin on a dusted surface. And smear generous amount of water on the top..
  9. Put the wet side on the hot skillet(tawa) first. After 30 seconds... flip the tawa as shown in the pic so that the top side too gets cooked well..
  10. Serve the naans hot after brushing with butter immediately. ENJOY !!!.
